Peers Moving Co Inc has moved Morris County out of one building on North Sussex Street in Dover since 1888. That makes us one of the oldest continuously operating moving companies in the United States, and it is the plainest thing we can tell you about how we work: we are still here, at the same address, and you can find us after the truck pulls away.
Who you are actually hiring
Peers is small on purpose. Tim, Sheila and Tony answer the phone themselves, so the people who quote your move are the people accountable for it. We hold a 4.9 rating across 349 Google reviews. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 to 3, and the number is (973) 366-2898.
What we move
We handle local moves and long distance moves, for homes and offices, with packing and storage when you need them. Pianos, antiques, pool tables and safes are handled in house. We also do senior and estate moves, which need more time and more patience than a standard job.
How the company got here
The business was founded in 1888 by Joseph N. Brown as a furniture and cartage firm on North Sussex Street. It grew into the Model Storage Warehouse, then into Brown’s Storage Co., which by the 1940s was running out of Dover and Morristown as an Allied Van Lines agent.
In the early 1970s the business passed within the family and the Peers name went onto the trucks. It first appears in a photograph dated 1972. What has not changed across any of it is the address, the trade, or the telephone number: 366-2898 was hand painted on the side of a truck in 1972 and it is still the number that answers today.
The 1888 date is not a marketing round number. A Dover newspaper in February 1952 described the firm as “Brown’s Storage Co., Inc., Since 1888, Pioneer In Moving & Storage In Area” with sixty four years of service at 76 N. Sussex Street. Sixty four years before 1952 is 1888, at the same street we operate from now. You can see the photographs, dated 1900 to today, on our home page.
Licensed and insured
US DOT 43124. MC 81955. New Jersey mover licence 39PC00002200. We can issue a certificate of insurance naming your building before moving day, which most condos, co-ops and office buildings will ask for.
Where we work
We are based in Dover and cover all of Morris County, plus Essex, Union, Hunterdon, Warren and Passaic. Being close by is the point: a shorter run to your door is a cheaper move. See the towns we serve, read how we build a quote, or ask for a free quote.
Both residential and commercial customers trust us to handle their relocations, and no job is too big or too small. We’re happy to help you move a piano around the block or move your whole business from one state to another on the East Coast.
We also have specialized experience in moving antiques and large, heavy valuables, so you can rest assured that your possessions are safe with us. We handle as much of the moving process as you want us to. Using our tried and true techniques, we can wrap and pack your items, provide all of the materials to do so, and even bring along the materials required to protect your floors, walls, and doors.
For those extra items that you’re not sure you have room for, we provide short-term and long-term storage services. As a small company, we’re able to provide the kind of hands-on, customer-centered service our patrons deserve throughout the entire process.
